The IRS plans to add to its digital capabilities and flesh out its tax assistance services this filing season, according to Ken Corbin, commissioner of the tax agency’s Wage and Investment Division. Corbin recently explained how this filing season will be noticeably different than from years past. He said that the IRS is expanding online account capabilities and will be adding new features, such as allowing taxpayers to view notices online. In addition, 5,000 new customer service representatives have been hired to improve notoriously long wait times and low response rates plaguing support phone lines. These new hires will be working in full capacity by Feb. 20, 2023, Corbin announced.
